A TIPTOE THROUGH PRESEC'S HISTORY
1828 : First batch of Basel Missionaries arrive in Osu, exactly one week before Christmas. None of the 4 live to see the end of their first year in the Gold Coast.
1832 : Rev Andreas Riis and the 2nd Batch of Basel Missionaries arrive in the Gold Coast. He Settles in Akropong.
1843 : Rev Riis is part of delegation to the West Indies to recruit black missionaries. Common believe is that they will have more natural resistance to tropical diseases. 6 black families (19 people) and 3 bachelors return to settle in Ghana. One of the bachelors, Alex Worthy Clerk marries a lady from Osu. Their son N.T. Clerk trains in Germany as a Basel Missionary.
1850 : Johannes Zimmerman is a member of the latest Basel Mission to the Gold Coast. He is stationed at Osu Christianborg.
1854 : Zimmerman moves to Abokobi to escape British Poll Tax Ordinance riots and its after effects.
1855 : Johannes Zimmerman and Rev. C. W. Locher travel to Odumase Krobo to meet Odonkor Azzu, the Chief of Manya Krobo.
1858 : Odonkor Azu encourages the establishment of a Basel Mission Station in Odumase.
1859 : Johannes Zimmerman is transferred to Odumase Krobo to open a new mission station there. He is accompanied by his former pupils -- Carl Christian Reindorf and Christian Obobi. The building that housed the mission will one day serve as the home of Presec.
1866 : Johannes Zimmerman finishes the Ga translation of the Bible.
1903 : Rev Engmann Augustus Wilkens Engmann is born in Oyibi, near Accra.
1905 : Rev E.J. Klufio is born on 5th May, 1905 near La.
1914 : Breakout of World War 1. Basel Missionaries are forced to leave Ghana. They are replaced by a Scottish Mission team.They are allowed to return in 1926.
1915 : Rev A.L. Kwansa is born. He is ordained as a Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in 1945 and serves as the 5th Synod Clerk of the Church from February 1955 to December 1969.
1918 : Rev N.T. Clerk elected as the First Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church. He argues for a Secondary School for Boys.This pitch is taken up by his successors and leads to the establishment of Presec in 1938.
1918 : Rev Klufio begins his teaching career at Ada. He will eventually teach at La, Teshie Middle Schools, Akropong Training College, Achimota College, Presec and Prempeh College etc.
1934 : Akropong Presbyterian Middle School (Salem) headteacher and Rev E A W Engmann visit Krobo Odumase to take part in celebrating the arrival of Christianity in Odumase several decades ago. They make the 17-mile trek on foot and are housed in the Old German Mission Building (i.e. the house that Zimmerman built). E Owusu Parry, the first senior prefect is a member of the party that makes the trip. Rev Engmann fights very hard to use the vacant premises to start a boys school to train young men to become worthy citizens.
1937 : 35 year old E A W Engmann offers to help establish a Presbyterian Boys Secondary school despite adequate funding. In October, he receives his commission from D.E. Akwa, Synod Clerk to establish Presec in Feb 1938.
1938 : At 10 am, 1/31/1938, 10 students and 4 teachers gather for the first convocation ceremony.

1938 : 6 new students (i.e. William Henaku Asamani, Joseph Emmanuel Asumang, Seth Ohene Nyarko, Nicholas Emmanuel Tei, Albert Joseph Kudji, Thomas Hall Bampo) join the first 10 students. Foundation staff include E.A.W Engmann, F.C. Agyei Tetebo, Ebenezer G Ako, and E.J. Djoleto.
1940 : J. L. Anang composes 'Happy Are We' School Anthem.
1941 : First batch of students sit for the Cambridge School Certificate Examination. The director of Education is thrilled with Presec's results inspite of the school's spartan living conditions. 6 of the 9 students have good grade passes.
1942 : Rev. Klufio begins teaching at Presec. He eventually leads the school for 18 years.
1943 : Rev Engmann leaves for further studies at Exetor and London Universities. He hands over to Rev E.J Klufio. At Exeter he wins the Tuckerman Prize and also a prize for his book "Ganyobi".
1948 : Mr C.J. Amaning takes over from Rev Klufio. He serves as acting Headmaster.
1949 : Rev Engmann returns to resume headship of the school. He hands over to Rev E.J. Klufio who heads the school from 1951 to August 1960.
1949 : Mr E.K. Datsa leaves to study at the University of Glassgow and the University of Edinburgh.
1950 : The Prebyterian Church and presec authorities start thinking about removing Presec from Odumase to Legon. The school was to be housed temporarily at Osu while the permanent buildings at Legon were being completed.
1955 : Rev A.L. Kwansa is appointed synod clerk. He serves on the Board of Governors of the school from February 1955 to December 1969. He fights against all odds to ensure relocation of Presec to Legon.
1958 : Presec's academic excellence is noted. WAEC releases a press statement praising Presec for having excellent results of 49 certificates out of 52 candidates.
1960 : Rev Klufio leaves for Trinity College in Glassgow to prepare for his ordination which finally takes place in January 1962. Mr N.O Anim serves as acting Headmaster from Sep 1960 to Jan 1961.
1960 : Rev Kwansa makes a direct appeal to the President of the republic of Ghana - Dr Kwame Nkrumah to fund the rehousing of the school. The president agrees to help and the government of Ghana takes over the rehousing project.
1961 : Mr E.K. Datsa serves as acting headmaster from January 1961 to July 1961.Mr S.M Akita serves as acting headmaster from August 1961 to Sep 1961.Rev E.J. Klufio returns to serve as headmaster from Sep 1961 to Jan 1966.
1961 : On 15th November, for the first time in the school's history students go on demonstration demanding new buildings and facilities.
1962 : G.C.E. A level course is introduced. The programme starts with 14 Arts and 8 science students. Unfortunately, 2 years later the program will be halted due to staff shortage and inadequate laboratory facilities.
1966 : Mr E.K. Datsa serves as headmaster from Sep 1966 to Aug 1973.
1966 : Mr E.K. Ceasar serves as acting headmaster from Jan 1966 to August 1966.
1968 : In September, under the leadership of Mr. E. K. Datsa - Headmaster, Mr Apeadu - Asst Headmaster, Presec relocates to 'Mile 9' in June.
1971 : Student strikes fuel tension in the school and lead to a one term suspension of some members of the Class of 1971.
1972 : In June, the last group of students to attend form 1 in Odumase Krobo graduate. They are the last to learn Latin at Presec and form the majority of the first sixth formers who enroll in October 1972.
1972 : Mr Dwamena (i.e. currently one of Presec's most esteemed teachers of Economics) is selected House Prefect of Clerk House.
1972 : Ten years after the first failed attempt, A level is finally implemented in Presec. 49 students are part of this pioneering class.38 students sit for the A level exam in 1974. 31 of them scored passes in their electives. 34 of them passed the General Paper exam.
1973 : Mr E.A. Apeadu serves as acting headmaster from Sep 1973 to August 1974.
1974 : Rev E.S. Mate Kodjo (Class of 1948) serves as headmaster from Sep 1974 to August 1980.
1975 : Establishment of the National Science Collage. Enrollment of the first lady students into Presec. They number 18.
1976 : WAEC 0'level Awards: 1st in History: K Akurang-Parry.
1977 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Henry Aduful.
1978 : Prof George Clerk, renowed botanist at the University of Ghana nurses a new Odadee seedling to serve as the biological nexus between Odumase and Legon.In February 1978, Mr Opoku Boateng (class of 1950) and president of the Old boys association plants this seedling to celebrate Presec's 40th anniversary.
1979 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Emmanuel Kwei Quaye.
1980 : Mr E.Y. Atua Afari serves as headmaster from 1980 to 1982.
1981 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: James Raymond Asarkaah, Prosper Nuga K. Nuholo.
1982 : Mr E.A. Apeadu serves as headmaster from 1982 to 1989.
1983 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Maama Sawyerr Markwei, Victor Ayitey Bruce, John Kaku Miah, Kwabena Adu Boahen.
1984 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Dereck Dokyi Amakye, John Kwesi Fynn.
1985 : Deboardinization of female students. Single bungalow not enough to house the growing number of female students at Presec.
1986 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Joseph K.D.Ghansaf,Edward Ramford Gyampo, Emmanuel Adjetey Essel.
1987 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Raymond Tettey Narh, Daniel Kwame Nyatuame, Prudence Kweku Nutsuklo, Michael Ofori, A.K. Owusu Afriyie Jnr.
1988 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Kwasi Sarkodie Oduro, Frederick Attakumah.
1988 : WAEC A'level Awards: 1st Frederick Attakumah.
1988 : Presec celebrates its Golden Jubilee. A Jubilee Clinic is established as memento. Dr Adjei Odjidja (Class of 1960) coordinated the effort and visited the clinic regularly to check on affairs. Mr LL Crabbe (Class of 1963) has been supplying drugs to the clinic on very reasonable terms.
1989 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Stephen Kofi Buadu.
1989 : WAEC 0'level Awards: 1st Kofi Senyo Honu.
1989 : Mrs Rose Ankrah serves as the acting headmistress.
1990 : A'level all A's Roll of Honor: Matthew Kwame Kyei, Jonathan Amarkei Laryea, Lawrence Adu Boateng, Andrews Okyere Duah, Frank Kusi Gyabaa.

1990 : Mr A.A. Akuoko takes over as headmaster. He will serve until the end of the 1996 academic year and then transition to JJ Asare who serves from until 1997 as acting headmaster.

1996 : In June, the last bunch of sixth formers leave as the nation marks the end of the A level system. 52 Upper Sixth form female students leave Presec and Presec reverts to being an all boys institution.

1997 : Rev Kwansa receives the State Honor of Grand Medal (Civil Division) from the Republic of Ghana during the 40th Anniversary celebration.

1998 : Best Teacher Awards (National level): 1st Mr S.O. Preprah.

2006 : Roland Ribero, Kofi Seffah and Timothy Kotin make history by winning the National Science and Math Quiz for the third time by defeating defending Champions St Peters. The trophy remains in the hands of Presec for keeps.

2007 : Mr Africanus Anane is sworn in as the 9th headmaster of Presec.

2008 : William Dove, Daniel Yeboah-Kordieh and Roland Krieger win the National Science and Math Quiz for an unprecendented 4 time. This feat has not been equalled by any other institution in Ghana.They defeat Opoku Ware for the Trophy.
